Position Summary:
The technology specialist is responsible and assisting the department with IT support needs on campus as needed.
Essential Functions:
Serves as a standing member of the Campus Technology Committee.
Assists the department in the configuration of network routers, switches and other core infrastructure components.
Installs and maintains mobile and desktop instructional and administrative computers and peripherals.
Installs, configures and upgrades University software.
Documents software licensing, network configurations, etc.
Maintains technology inventory lists.
Writes programs to automate business tools for use by USW faculty and staff.
Assist with maintaining Ellucian Colleague Software.
Attends conferences and workshops pertaining to various computing technologies.
Other responsibilities:
Performs other related duties as assigned by the Director of Information Technology.
Participates in campus activities.
Education, experience, & skills required:
Certificate or Associate’s degree in Information Systems or related field, or equivalent experience.
Demonstrated strong technical and analytical skills, and effective communication abilities.
Must be a team player possessing good people skills.
Must possess a good working knowledge of current desktop operating systems.
Must have experience in installing and troubleshooting PC hardware.
Should have general knowledge of LAN architecture and be willing to learn, as needed, any additional or specific technologies.
Familiarity with Ellucian Colleague is preferred. Other areas of competence which are expected are Microsoft Office Suites, Adobe Applications, and Networking protocols. Prior experience in some form of computer programming is preferred.
Must be willing to work in a fast-paced environment and can organize one’s work, establish priorities, and work independently.
Knowledge of Windows server 2016-2022 is preferred.
Should have general knowledge of Active Directory.
Should be able to lift up to 75 lb in short bursts while pivoting and or hold weight for a short time if needed during hardware installs. Must also be comfortable climbing ladders and/or working while leaning (in a safe manner) over heights of a story or more on rare occasions.
Should be willing to work over the phone, by email, via web-conferencing software and in person with students and employees regarding any support requests they may have.
