First-Time Freshman

If you have never attended college (outside of dual credit courses) and would like to pursue an undergraduate degree at University of the Southwest, you are in the right spot and are one step closer to officially becoming a Mustang!

Admission Requirements

First-time freshman admission is based on a combination of grade-point average, class rank and ACT/SAT score.

To be considered for admission to USW, you must satisfy two out of the three admission criteria:

  • Rank in the top 50% of your high school class
  • 940 SAT composite or 18 ACT composite
  • Minimum 2.0 GPA (4.0 scale)

First-time freshmen or transfer students who do not meet the standard undergraduate admissions requirements will be required to submit an appeal to be reconsidered for admission.

Application Process

  • Explore University of the Southwest’s undergraduate majors/areas of emphasis.
  • Complete the free Undergraduate Admissions Application.
    • The application deadline for students entering the Fall 2018 semester is Friday, July 27 at 11:59pm MST. Late applications will not be accepted or considered for Fall 2018, but may be rolled over to Spring 2019.
    • The application deadline for students entering the Spring 2019 semester is Friday, December 28 at 11:59pm MST. Late applications will not be accepted or considered for Spring 2019, but may be rolled over to Fall 2019.
  • Submit required documents.
    • Official high school transcript (final and official high school transcript noting graduation date will be required for full admittance) Or GED transcript
    • Official college transcripts if you have earned dual credit while attending high school
    • ACT/SAT scores (must be sent through ACT/College Board)
    • Official Advanced Placement (AP) and College Level Examination Program (CLEP) scores are not required for admission, but are strongly recommended (if applicable). Official scoresheet(s) must be received in order for credit to be reviewed/granted.

      • Or electronically through the following e-transcript providers: Parchment, eScrip-Safe and National Student Clearinghouse.
      • Transcripts delivered in person must remain in the sealed envelope it was issued.
      • Student copies, personal copies, PDF’s or photos of test scores/transcripts do not constitute official records and will not be accepted.
  • Allow 3 business days for your application to be processed. Upon receipt, you will be sent an acknowledgement via email by your Director of Undergraduate Admissions & Student Support.
