Transfer Student

If you’re planning to transfer from another college or university to the University of the Southwest, then you are a transfer student. Follow the enrollment steps below.

Step 1: Explore Academic Programs

Are you unsure of what careers best suit you? Check out Jobzology! Jobzology Career Assessment is an online career and education planning tool for prospective and current USW students. It will enable you to self-assess your values, skills, interests, and personality and explore career fields and Programs of Study at USW that are most compatible with your assessment results.

 
Step 2: Review Admissions Requirements & complete the online Admissions Application  
 
You can also stop by the Office of Enrollment Management (J.L. Burke 506) to complete the application at our computer kiosks.
 
You will receive a welcome letter that confirms that your application has been received and provides instructions for the next steps in your enrollment process.

  Students who submit all required paperwork by the priority application deadline can expect:
·  To be admitted to the college.
·  To attend an orientation session and meet with an academic advisor.
·  To receive adequate time to plan, select, and register for classes.
 
The college will continue to process paperwork after the priority application deadline. However, to increase the likelihood of completing the enrollment process, the college highly encourages students to submit all paperwork by the priority application deadline.
 
 
Step 3: Submit required Official (sealed) High School and/or College Transcripts.

Send all your official high school and/or college transcripts to:

You must submit your official high school transcript unless you have already graduated with an associate's degree or higher. In this instance, your official transcript from that college or university will be enough.
Official transcripts are required if you have attended another college or university.
**If the original copy of your transcript is written in a non-English language, a certified English translation is required.


Step 4: Complete the FAFSA to begin the financial aid process.

We encourage all students to apply for financial aid. To begin the process, you should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). University of the Southwest’s school code is 013935.
 
Check for general scholarships and types of aid available and how to apply for them, by visiting the Financial Aid and Scholarship Web site.
 
Students must submit a FASFA in order to be eligible and receive any form of USW institutional aid. 
 

Step 5: Activate Your USW Student Account

Your username is set up within 48 hours after completing an application. Your welcome letter will have instructions on how to activate your e-mail, and Blackboard accounts, which allow you to communicate with us and for you to receive important information related to admissions, financial aid, advising, and registration.
 
Check your e-mail on a daily basis. This is the college’s official form of communication. A hard copy may not be sent in the mail.
 
 
Step 6: Meet with an Academic Advisor

Meet with an academic advisor. Your advisors name and office location is located on your advisement summary form. Your advisor will review your program of study, career goals, and suggest courses for the upcoming term. Make your appointment with your advisor via email.
 

Step 7: Registration

Your academic advisor will assist you with this process.


Step 8: Apply for Housing

If you plan to live on campus, you are required to submit a Housing application. For information pertaining to housing, please visit USW Housing or contact the Director of housing, Jessica Becker at 575-973-7377 or jbecker@usw.edu


Step 9: Pay for classes

You are responsible for verifying your Financial Aid award and paying for your classes by the first day of classes. If need to establish payment arrangements, please visit
USW payment arrangements.
 

Step 10: New Student Orientation

New students must complete an orientation session. All new students should sign up for the New Student Orientation prior to the start date of their first semester. The orientation provides information about key services and programs such as getting your student ID and parking permit, how to purchase your textbooks and finding your classes.
