International Admissions Requirements

     Steps for Admission if you are a first time international freshman:
    
1.   Application
Complete the application for international admissions online

Spring 2017 APPLICATIONS will be DUE ON October 15th, 2017.

Fall 2018 APPLICATIONS will be DUE ON October 15th 2018.

Applications received after the May 15th deadline will be considered for Spring in 2019 admissions

      
2.   Transcripts
Official evaluated transcripts are required for admittance. You will need to submit your high school and/or college transcript for evaluation and have the results sent to USW. The university will accept evaluation results from any of the following:

3. English Proficiency

All international students coming to the United States to study are required to submit official English proficiency score reports to the Office of Admissions and Recruitment at USW. This can be in the form of one of the following:
  • Score a minimum of 500 on the paper-based TOEFL
  • Score a minimum of 173 on the computer-based TOEFL
  • Score a minimum of 61 on the internet-based TOEFL (IBT)
  • Score a minimum of 5.5 on the IELTS

4. Financial Statement

Submit an official bank statement or current financial letter of support (within the last 6 months)showing the ability to finance the estimated cost of attendance for one year of $26,000 which includes tuition, books, room, and board. A prospective student must demonstrate that s/he can meet all expenses incurred while a student at USW. International students are required to prepay their first semester's tuition, fees, and room and board. ALL BANK STATEMENTS AND LETTERS OF SUPPORT MUST BE OFFICIALLY CERTIFIED, NOTARIZED OR ATTESTED.


5.      Health Insurance

Health Insurance is required by all international students. Please submit proof of health insurance coverage at the same time you submit your transcripts and test scores. If proof of insurance is not provided or you do not have coverage, health insurance is available through the following international insurance providers, www.nriol.net and www.hccmis.com at a reasonable cost.


6.       Housing

All unmarried freshman and sophomore students under the age of 21 are required to live on-campus. Please complete and submit the online housing application.
A housing deposit of $350 is required and must be submitted at the same time you submit your transcripts and test scores. The deposit can be paid by credit card or mailed to the school: University of the Southwest - 6610 North Lovington Hwy. – Hobbs, NM 88240.
If you do not plan to live in university housing, a local address must be submitted on the application for admissions.


7.       I-20
(Certificate of Eligibility for Non-immigrant (F-1) Student Status-For Academic and Language Students). Your I-20 will be issued only after you have been officially admitted to USW.
