On November 22, 2022, the University of the Southwest received a $100,000 grant from the Allsup Family Charitable Foundation to support teacher education. The grant aims to improve regional education levels in New Mexico and West Texas by expanding and building upon the success of teacher education programs at USW. It will seek to increase the supply of qualified, certified teachers in areas with high teacher vacancy rates and support increased student enrollment in the university’s teacher education programs. The grant will also assist with development operations to support long-term funding needs for students and the program.

“This is a fantastic opportunity to make a positive social impact in our community,” interim USW president Dr. Ryan Tipton said. “We are incredibly excited to partner with the Allsup Family Charitable Foundation to work towards sustainable solutions to a significant challenge in New Mexico and West Texas. Developing highly trained, day-one-ready teachers is a core tenet of the university’s College of Education, and we are honored that the foundation is supporting our efforts.”
