On November 29th, 2022, the University of the Southwest received a donation from Project 40:31 to support the institution’s golf program. Project 40:31 was founded in 2013 by Scott and Bridgette Curtis, Bill and Pat Richards, and Lee Roberson, with ConocoPhillips as the title sponsor for its inaugural fundraising event. To date, Project 40:31 has distributed more than $2.4 million to community non-profit organizations. This year, the USW golf program was included as a recipient.

USW students and golf team members were invited to participate in the 9th Annual Benefit Golf Tournament that was hosted on September 9th and 10th. Steve Appel, Associate VP for Facilities and Athletics, commented on the importance of community engagement to the athletics program. “Our student-athletes learn so much from participating in local events that demonstrate servant leadership. The Annual Benefit Golf Tournament organized by Project 40:31 is a perfect example of servant leadership in action,” said Appel.

Dr. Tipton, interim President at USW, states, “we are incredibly fortunate to live, work, and study in a community that consistently reflects the true spirit of servant leadership. The work of Project 40:31 makes such a meaningful impact, and we are incredibly grateful for their decision to support USW.”
