On September 12th, 2022, the USW athletics department named Taylor Phillips as the first recipient of the IPS 2022 Golf Team Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship was made available through an endowment gift from Ingram Professional Services (IPS) to the university in August. Established in memory of the 2022 USW Golf Team, the scholarship is awarded to a full-time USW student with a strong GPA and a member of USW athletics. Preference for the award is given to a student-athlete on the golf team. Taylor Phillips, a member of the USW women’s golf team, met with Interim President, Dr. Ryan Tipton, Associate Vice President for Athletics Steve Appel, and Golf Coach RJ Lester to receive the scholarship award.

Dr. Tipton notes, “we are delighted for Taylor to be selected as the recipient of the award. She is an outstanding student and has determinedly continued her academic studies throughout the Summer and now into the Fall. Her perseverance through a difficult time is an inspiration to her fellow student-athletes.”

Steve Appel, Associate VP for Facilities and Athletics, was present at the scholarship presentation and commented about Taylor’s dedication to continuing her studies. He states, “Taylor worked hard and put in the time and effort to continue her classes through the Summer. She has shown us all that pushing through the hard times is possible.”

The IPS 2022 Golf Team Memorial Scholarship funds $1000 each semester and can be used to cover tuition and fees.
