August 11, 2022 — On August 10th, 2022, Ingram Professional Services, Inc (IPS) gave the University of the Southwest Foundation an initial gift to create the IPS 2022 Golf Team Memorial Scholarship. Investment earnings from the endowment will fund an annual scholarship awarded to a full-time USW student with a GPA of 3.0 or higher and a member of USW athletics. Preference for the award will be given to student-athletes on the golf team.

Dr. Tipton, interim President of USW, states, “we are forever grateful to IPS and their leadership team for their support of students right here in the Permian Basin. Speaking with Donnie Graham (IPS-COO) today, it’s evident that the company and its President, Philip Ingram, believe in supporting the local community. This gift will continue to assist USW students long into the future.”

Executive Vice President and CFO Paula Smith, who was the primary point of contact for the establishment of the endowment, commented, “we have worked with IPS to prepare an endowment that will fund a scholarship of at least $1000 in both the Fall and Spring terms each year. We have many first-generation students at USW, and this scholarship will be treasured.”

Steve Appel, Associate VP for Facilities and Athletics, was available at the presentation of the gift and mentioned, “this will mean so much to the golf team and USW athletics. Knowing that the community right here in Lea County continues to support our Mustangs gives us the strength to keep moving forward.”

USW will award the first annual IPS 2022 Golf Team Memorial Scholarship in the Fall (2022) as the new semester begins on August 22nd.
