Jimmy Crawford Biography – Alumnus of the Year

     Jimmy Crawford has a passion for God, making memories with his family, and making a difference in the world. He and his wife Carolyn are the parents of three sons.Cameron is a New Mexico State University graduate. Christian a junior at Texas Tech University.  Jace is a junior at Lovington High School attending New Mexico Junior College Early College Program.

     After receiving a Bachelor of Business Administration/Marketing degree from Eastern New Mexico University, Jimmy spent seven years as a marketing manager for a communications company. It was during this time that he felt God tugging at his heart to make a change. He spent a year in prayer seeking God’s guidance. God directed him out of the business world and into education. Jimmy obtained a Master’s Degree in Education Administration in 2005 from University of the Southwest. He thanks Dr. Elizabeth Posey and Dr. Dennis Atherton for being instrumental in this process.

     Jimmy has taught business and technology classes at Lovington high school for the past 17years. He strives to bring the real world into the classroom and wants to make a personal connection with each student. Mr. Crawford maintains relationships with many former students who seek him out for advice on life, careers, and spiritual matters. He has partnered with the University of the Southwest to bring Students in Free Enterprise to Lovington High. Jimmy also has served as head tennis coach to LHS. He is the school’s all-time winningest tennis coach.The boy’s tennis team has qualified for the State Championships and finished in the top eight teams for 14 consecutive years. The girl’s tennis team has qualified and finished in the top eight teams ten times. Coach Crawford has been selected by his peers to coach the New Mexico All-Star tennis team two times; is a member of the New Mexico Activities Association Tennis Sports Specific Committee, and is on the New Mexico High School Coaches Associated Tennis Committee.

     In addition to teaching and coaching, Jimmy has served as pastor of Bethel Baptist Church in Hobbs since 2004. During his time the church has grown from 20 in weekly attendance to over 120. Crawford seeks to lead Bethel in spiritual growth as well as member growth. Bethel Baptist is a friendly church that loves God and loves people and Jimmy is humbled to lead such a dedicated congregation. He challenges members to be the hands and feet of Jesus in this world. Crawford’s frequent saying is “let’s be real Christians in the real world. Let’s go out and make divine appointments to make a difference in the lives of others.”


Alexandria Lopez – Distinguished Young Alumnus

Alexandria Lopez graduated from the University of the Southwest in 2011 with a B.A.S. in Physical Education and a minor in Sports Management. She began her career in teaching in the fall of 2013 as a 5th grade teacher at Taylor Elementary in Hobbs, NM.  In the winter of 2015 she was offered the girls varsity soccer head coaching position at the high school level and made the transition to Hobbs High School in the 2015 fall semester.Since then, the program has seen much success on and off the field as the team continues to make an impact in the community.

Student athletes involved in her program understand what it means to give back to the community and serve others. Organizations her team has worked and impacted within the Hobbs community include food distribution in the Hobbs elementary schools,working alongside athletes who have disabilities in Hobbs Youth Soccer Association, and the Boys & Girls Club.

Alexandria’s hobbies include traveling to new places when it’s not soccer season. She spends a great amount of time with her soccer athletes throughout the year.
